Email Alternatives

You Are HERE: :Home/Email/Email Alternatives

First of all, I’d like to apologize if you’re having troubles with your email.  I know when email stops working, life (business) comes to a screeching halt, and I feel bad about that.  What’s happening is some sites are not being updated frequently (WordPress, Plugins, and Themes) and hackers are able to hack into the site and use it to send spam.  This trashes the reputation of the server.

This is a solution for SMTP or outbound email only.  This has nothing to do with inbound email.  All inbound email problems can be solved by using Gmail to pick up your email.

  1. Sign up for a free account at https://www.smtp2go.com/signup  Keep track of your username/password.
  2. Click on the confirmation link in the confirmation email you’ll receive.
  3. Change the settings in your email software to the following:
(Note:  C hange SMTP or outbound email settings only.  Don’t change inbound or POP/POP3 settings at all.)

    1. username/password as you used in smtp2go
    2. SMTP Server: mail.smtp2go.com
      SMTP Port: 2525
Alternative ports: 8025, 587, 80 or 25. TLS is available on the same ports.
SSL is available on ports 465, 8465 and 443.

Let me know if this works for you.  I’ll be happy to credit your account for 3 months of hosting fees for the trouble.

Contact me and I’ll set this up for you.

  • scott@hammock.net (I usually have no trouble receiving email.)

Then change the settings in your email software to the following:
(Note:  C hange SMTP or outbound email settings only.  Don’t change inbound or POP/POP3 settings at all.)

  1. username/password I’ll send you for your account for smtp2go
  2. SMTP Server: mail.smtp2go.com
    SMTP Port: 2525
Alternative ports: 8025, 587, 80 or 25. TLS is available on the same ports.
SSL is available on ports 465, 8465 and 443.

Or, if you need me to do this for you, please install TeamViewer if you don’t have it already so I can access your computer.  (Basic installation for personal use.)  Or if you use Google to pick up email, send me your Google login.

What we’re doing here is using another company’s server for sending out email.  If you send out fewer than 1,000 email per month, the free account will work.  If you send out more than 1,000 email per month, then let’s chat.  I can adjust your hosting charges to compensate the additional charge.  1,000 email per month is a lot.
